Grace

Beauty for Ashes

You have poured it from the sky

Like gentle rain on a hot

Summer day,

As you do a new thing in a dry

And unfertile ground,

And life pushes up from underneath.

You are the sunlight

That warms and nourishes

A hope that was failing.

You are a quiet morning when

What was born for adversity

Extends an olive branch

Like a bridge

Back to shelter,

A once safe place to fall.

You are doing a new thing,

Let me wash in your

Cleansing water,

Let me drink from your

Fountain of life.

Let me rest in your

Grace which has restored

What was broken

And breathed new life

Into what seemed

Forever lost.

Bring to us what the locust

Has eaten and revive

Dry bones,

Trading ashes for beauty

Once again.
